My name is Andrew Restieri, and I’m a PhD candidate in the Department of Communication at Cornell University. My research centers on the use of digital technology to facilitate online communities, especially for marginalized groups. I am particularly interested in how those communities interact with infrastructures of governance.
My areas of expertise include:
digital culture
sexuality, intimacy, and pornography
consent and privacy
platform governance
I leverage primarily qualitative and ethnographic methods, including interviews, focus groups, and critical discourse analysis. I also have robust training in statistics and quantitative data analysis.
Before Cornell, I obtained my MA in Communication from Johns Hopkins University and my BA from the Northwestern University School of Communication. I am a member of the International Communication Association and the Association of Internet Researchers, and a graduate student affiliate with the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life.
